Jesus promised that He would always remain with His people. He has kept His word by teaching, healing, feeding, strengthening and blessing His people through the Church in the Sacraments. The Sacraments are defined as outward signs of inward grace, instituted by Christ to help individuals in their spiritual life and to grow in holiness. Sacraments are mysteries; they are signs of the sacred presence of our God in our midst today. They are more than mere signs, however, Sacraments do something, they give grace. For instance, Baptism is more than just a sign of union with Jesus; our sins are actually washed away and we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Mount Virgin celebrates seven Sacraments which were instituted by Christ during His earthly ministry

The Sacrament of Baptism

Second and Fourth Sunday of the month at 1:00 pm. If Sacrament is requested to be celebrated in Italian or Spanish, the celebration will take place on the Fourth Sunday of the month. Arrangements for Baptisms can be made by contacting Sr. JoAnn at the rectory at (973) 772-2295.
**Private Baptism's only in emergency situations.

The Sacrament of Eucharist

The Eucharist is the sacrament by which Catholics receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. For Catholics, this is the most treasured gift given to the Church by the Lord at the Last Supper. In receiving the Eucharist, we are nourished by the Lord. The bread and wine used in the Mass are transformed in all but appearance into the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist is seen as "the source and summit" of Christian life, the participation of the faithful in God's sanctifying action through worship.

The Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is offered to 8th grade students after sufficient instruction. Adults wishing to receive Confirmation need to enroll in the RCIA program. Further information is available by calling Sr. JoAnn at the Religious Education Office at (973) 772-2295.

The Sacrament of Anointing

Also called the sacrament of the sick, it is administered to those in need of healing for mind, body and spirit. The sacrament is also administered to those who are in danger of death or on their deathbed to assist them on their journey to the Lord. Please call the rectory at (973) 772-2295.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

All too often people shy away from this sacrament. It is a sacrament which affords us the grace of knowing God's unconditional love, mercy and forgiveness through the prayer of absolution. Do not be afraid. No questions asked. The Sacrament is celebrated on Saturdays from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, as a community during the seasons of Advent and Lent and anytime you are in need. Confessions are also available upon request.

The Sacrament of Holy Orders

Men who feel God's call to the Priesthood or the Permanent Diaconate are invited to speak to one of our parish priests. Currently, there are three members of our parish in seminary and formation to the priesthood or religious life. You may feel called to serve God as a priest or religious. The Sacrament of Marriage

Arrangements for marriages are to be made at least one year in advance. Contact one of our parish priests at the rectory to begin the formation. Dates are scheduled by the priest only, after he has met with the engaged couple. Priests communicate directly with the engaged couple and not the parents.
